Many of us set health-related goals at the start of the year, but life moves fast, and without intentional pauses sometimes we find ourselves getting off track as time passes. This is a friendly reminder that it’s okay to check in on yourself and reset your routine – no matter what time of year it is.
Reflect on your goals and celebrate wins
It’s important to celebrate the steps you’ve taken toward your health goals – no matter how big or small. If needed, take this time to make course corrections on any positive habits you’ve gotten away from and reinforce the ones you’ve stuck with.
Plan for preventative care
Regular checkups keep you on track with your overall wellness – sometimes your healthcare providers can even help uncover certain conditions and diseases before they show symptoms or get worse.
Double check your calendar and make sure you’re scheduled for your annual visits – and don’t forget, this includes visiting your eye doctor. Use Surency’s Provider Locator to schedule an eye exam at any in-network provider, including Target Optical.
Get active (if you aren’t already)
It’s no secret that being active has many immediate and long-term benefits for your overall health. So, whether you’re a pro athlete or a fitness newbie, there’s no time like the present to reassess your fitness level or get started on a new routine.
If you are not currently physically active, work your way up to 150 minutes a week of activity with moderate intensity.¹ Choose an activity you enjoy so you stay motivated and energized – it could be as simple as walking, dancing or doing yard work.
Check in on your sleep hygiene
Establishing healthy wellness habits also includes making sure your sleep hygiene is optimal. Here are a few ways to get the best beauty rest²:
- Maintain a consistent sleep schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the exact same time every day.
- Limit screen time: Turn off phones, tablets and TVs at least 60 minutes before bedtime.
- Avoid caffeine in the early afternoon or evening.
- Reduce stress: Try to journal before bed or use grounding practices like deep breathing or meditation.
Have a plan to stay motivated
Invest in yourself now and your future self will thank you – and give yourself permission to start small. To stay motivated and consistent, create a plan to keep yourself on track:
- Team up with a friend for accountability
- Focus on the process, not just the outcome
- Speak kindly to yourself and celebrate your progress along the way
